About the author - Nathan Tidridge
Nathan Tidridge was awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal for his ten years of volunteer support in the education of Canadians on the role of the Crown. He teaches Canadian history and government at Waterdown District High School and was awarded the Premier’s Award for Teaching Excellence (Teacher of the Year) in 2008. In 2011, he was awarded the Charles Baillie Award for Excellence in Secondary School Teaching by Queen's University.
Tidridge's book Canada's Constitutional Monarchy was celebrated by His Honour The Honourable David C. Onley, lieutenant governor of Ontario, at Queen's Park's vice-regal suite on November 28th, 2011. His Honour referenced Tidridge's students saying "They have had the privilege of being mentored by a teacher who has taken the time and trouble to develop an expertise about the nuances and advantages of our system of governance."

On May 22nd, 2012, Nathan Tidridge was one of six Ontarians presented with a Diamond Jubilee Medal by His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales for exemplifying Her Majesty’s 21st birthday pledge “I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service”. The ceremony took place at Queen's Park in the presence of Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cornwall and His Honour, the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario. The full citation read to His Royal Highness was as follows:
Nathan Tidridge is a celebrated high school teacher of history and government in Ontario. Tidridge teaches at Waterdown District High School, and was awarded the Premier's Award for Teaching Excellence (Teacher of the Year) in 2007. Most recently, Nathan wrote ‘Canada's Constitutional Monarchy’ about its history, heraldic symbols, role in the constitution, and the evolution of the Crown in Canada. His superb writing and teaching abilities are to the benefit of his students and the citizens of Canada. Tidridge currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Churchill Society for the Advancement of Parliamentary Democracy and the Flamborough Heritage Society. In November 2012 he participated in the 2012 Diamond Jubilee Conference on the Canadian Crown held by the University of Regina (Johnson-Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy), Saskatchewan, highlighting discrepancies in how Civics is taught across the country. Since 2010 he has been campaigning the Ontario Ministry of Education to correct serious errors in the curricula surrounding the province's approach to Civics. |
