Prince Edward's Martello Towers

The Duke of Kent is responsible for a dramatic fortification of Halifax and its harbour from 1796-1800, including the construction of three Martello Towers (two more would be built after the Duke's departure from the continent in 1800).

Of the five towers built around Halifax, only one survives: The Prince of Wales Tower of Point Pleasant Park. Learn more about these impressive structures with resources produced by Parks Canada uploaded below.
